Was spamming jump in between stages on surf_lt_omnific to get on that ramp on the side, could that have caused this? I'm fairly new to surf and am not quite sure what happened. It just kicked me in the middle of a stage and had that message. I can't re-join now as it says I'm banned.

There was a period where smac would pick up on the autobhop, so if you got banned before it got fixed, then you'll probably get unbanned.
